Good morning everyone,
A mea culpa with this: the meeting referenced below is only intended for the Vanguard libraries; that means none of you need to worry about this (until later this calendar year) and no one needs to worry about attending.
Sorry for the confusion or any panic my message may have caused!
Matt

Good morning (again),
You might have seen Ashley’s post to Basecamp about next week’s SIS load meeting … or received the meeting invitation from her, so I wanted to share some details about SIS load (beyond what has already been shared) and how it relates to OPAL libraries.
Basically, SIS load, which stands for Student Information System, is just Ex Libris’ term for what we currently refer to as patron loads (a data file from your campus systems that we at OhioNet load into Sierra to create or update your patron records).
As Ashley mentioned in Basecamp, using SIS load is entirely optional. If it makes sense for your situation, you can manually create user records in Alma, much like you do in Sierra.
But if you do want to use SIS load, a few things to know:
If you or your IT currently submit patron data on a regular basis, e.g., daily, then neither you nor your IT team need to do anything at all related to SIS load. Specifically:
* Your IT team do not need to worry about changing the process on their end to output XML in the format Ex Libris requires.
* They not need to attend next Friday’s meeting.
* We will take care of translating the data in its current format into the Ex Libris XML format, map any values from the Sierra values to their Alma counterparts, and configure Alma to load the data.
If you do not currently submit patron data but hope to use SIS load with Alma:
* Your IT team does not need to attend this week’s meeting.
* Your IT team does need to begin planning for establishing an automated process to extract delimited text files from your campus system and make it available by SFTP.
* We will take care of translating the data into XML and loading into Alma.
* When/if they want to move forward with submitting data for Alma, they can work with us directly, no need to involve Ex Libris.
Also keep in mind that SIS load is not the same as authentication in Alma. We’ll talk much more about the difference later and will guide you through the process when it’s time to worry about authentication.
As always, if you or your IT team have any questions, they can certainly reach out to us.
Thanks … and have a great weekend!!
Matt
