[opal_migration_leads] [External Email] Re: OhioLINK, Rapido, and Due Dates

My understanding was books automatically have a 5 week loan period when lent out via OhioLINK's Rapido and that time starts the minute an item is scanned into Rapido. They assume the first week will be used for travel/shipping time and then 3 weeks are there for the actual loan, with an additional week at the end for travel/shipping time back to owning library. Gedalia referenced the yellow "note" boxes below the pods charts in the Knowledge Center<https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Rapido/Product_Documentation/07_Rapido_Pods>.

If the book takes only 3 days to get to the borrowing institution and if the borrower picks up immediately they could get the item for 25 days (21 loan period + remaining 4 shipping days).
NOTE: Alternatively if there were delays in shipping it would seem like the borrower is the one penalized with a shorter loan period...

However if the book takes 3 days to get to the borrowing institution and the user waits a week to come get the book then they would only get 18 days with the book (book sat on shelf for 4 remaining shipping days + 3 "borrowing" days).

It sounds like Aseel is going to connect with OhioLINK staff to make sure everyone is aware of this. If my understanding is accurate I am surprised it didn't come up in earlier waves.

It sounded like as soon as a book leaves it's home library, it's checked out to the requestor or that's when the due date is set-even though it still has to travel from, say, Franciscan to Hiram, and then wait for the student to pick it up-all the while their loan period is decreasing. So a three week loan period might end up being just two weeks. But maybe I'm wrong. Thoughts?

Hi everyone!

Is there anyone who was in the Rapido Wave 4 or 5 meeting today explain exactly what's going on due date situation that folks were upset about in the meeting? I missed what started the conversation about that and found it incredibly bizarre that this is the first time the issue has come up so far. I was talking about this with my coworker Terri, and she had an understanding of it but wasn't sure if she was correct about it.

Thanks,

Laurence
