[opal_migration_leads] [EXTERNAL SENDER] Re: OhioLINK, Rapido, and Due Dates

Hi all,

So Terri had the following question and was under this impression:

Will due dates not populate automatically at check out as they do now? Unless I misinterpreted what was said (and it’s possible since I’m not hearing clearly), I have the impression that library staff will need to calculate due dates for items when they are checked out.

Did we get an answer to this question that both her and I missed? If any of y’all know, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Laurence

Hi All,

This process definitely seems different from Sierra. In talking with Lauren, the current set up they have for Rapido seems to be, for example, a 7 day travel time, a 21 day checkout time, and a 7 day return travel time. They build in travel time to the front and back of the process to take that into account so as to not cut too much into the checkout period, but the time waiting for the patron to pick it up does seem to be an area that could cause some issues. I wonder if Ohiolink would be interested in having 10 day travel time on the front end to allow patrons time to pick the items up? Alma is always an adventure!

It sounded like as soon as a book leaves it’s home library, it’s checked out to the requestor or that’s when the due date is set—even though it still has to travel from, say, Franciscan to Hiram, and then wait for the student to pick it up—all the while their loan period is decreasing. So a three week loan period might end up being just two weeks. But maybe I’m wrong. Thoughts?

Hi everyone!

Is there anyone who was in the Rapido Wave 4 or 5 meeting today explain exactly what’s going on due date situation that folks were upset about in the meeting? I missed what started the conversation about that and found it incredibly bizarre that this is the first time the issue has come up so far. I was talking about this with my coworker Terri, and she had an understanding of it but wasn’t sure if she was correct about it.

Thanks,

Laurence
