[opal_migration_leads] Internal user passwords

In terms of the language, you could what you’ve suggested, “Create or Reset Your Password” … or about a thousand variations of that.

As far as barcodes go, a user can sign in with any of the identifiers associated with their user record. So if their Sierra user has a barcode, they can use the barcode to sign in. But you could also add their campus ID number as an identifier … and they could sign in with that too.

But ultimately, it can get a little confusion to explain all the different options to your users. So for simplicity, you might just refer to the user ID as their barcode (assuming everyone has one) … and update all your labels accordingly.

Thanks!!

Matt

Hi Matt,

My initial thought is to include sign in instructions with some basic navigation instructions for users of Primo and to change “Forgot your password?” to “Set up or forgot your password?”

Does that make sense? And does that preclude the need to run the job to send passwords from Alma? Finally, is it the case that barcodes will continue to be the user id?

Thanks,
Dave

Subject: [opal_migration_leads] Internal user passwords

Good morning –

In previous OPAL Migration meetings, we’ve talked about internal users, i.e., users that (typically) cannot sign in via SSO, are not loaded via SIS load and have an Alma user name and password.

Specifically, we highlighted that, at or around go-live, you’d need to run a job that sets an initial password and emails it to your internal users. We also talked about the challenges in doing that: you’d need to ensure that you exclude any users having roles other than the “patron” role (to avoid changing staff or Ex Libris user accounts) and that you’d likely need to give users a heads-up that they’d be receiving their password via email.

To mitigate the need to do all of this, we’ve added an option to your Primo sign-in for internal users that will allow your internal users to reset their password. While it still may be advantageous to run the job and send the password via email, adding the password reset option makes it less critical to do so.

Finally, if you want to change the language of the password reset link, you can do that using the Primo labels. Specifically, under Discovery > Display Configuration > Labels > User Login Labels, the “Forgot your password?” text will be listed under code nui.help.login.link1 or nui.help.login.link2, depending on the order of your Primo sign-in options (under Configuration > Discovery > Authentication > User Authentication).

As always, let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!!

Matt
